With the expansion of urbanization in China, the rural landscape has changed dramatically, and the research of landscape pattern change and development model has become a hotspot. Development of urbanization in Suzhou city is favorable, in the process of economic development, imbalance of ecological environment and disappearance of rural landscape occurred. Economic development in harmony with rural landscape has become a pressing problem. Taking Wuzhong district in Suzhou as study area, this passage firstly analyzed land use structure and landscape pattern change by the method of land use dynamic degree and landscape pattern index based on three remote sensing images from 1990 to 2014. Present situation and characteristic of rural landscape were elaborated. Then rural types were classified according to industrial base. With rurality assessment indicator system, rurality degree of seven towns in Wuzhong district was evaluated. Suitable rural development models were constructed at last.(1) Change of rural landscape patternThe land use structure in Wuzhong district changed obviously from 1990 to 2014. The proportion of farmland and water firstly increased then decreased. The change trend of forest land was opposite to farmland and water. Construction land showed a continued expansion. The comprehensive land use dynamic degree in Wuzhong district from 1990 to 2014 is 0.8%. That the single land use dynamic degree of construction land is 4.99% showed a rapid expansion. The single land use dynamic degree of farmland, forest land and water is-0.87%,-1.3% and-0.55%.At class level, small-scale patches of farmland grew in number and fragmentation degree became higher due to cutting effect. Patches of forest land firstly concentrated then scattered. As a result of construction land expansion, small patches of water increased and tended to distribute dispersedly. Patches of construction land inclined to assemble and the degree of dominance got deep.(2) Classification of rural types and assessment of ruralityFrom the perspective of dominant industry, the rural types were classified into four types: Agriculture dominance type, Industry dominance type, Trade and tourism dominance type and balanced development type on the basis of rural type classification standard. Rurality assessment indicator system was constructed to evaluate rurality on the scale of town, rurality indexes of Xukou, Mudu, Luzhi, Figure 3-19 Change characteristics of PD in 1990, 2002 and 2014 35 Table 4-7 Weight of rurality assessment indicators 49 Dongshan, Linhu, Guangfu and Jinting is 0.257、0.499、0.522、0.587、0.648、0.737、0.785 respectively. The value of rurality indexes was divided into five levels: weak, weaker, moderate, stronger and strong. Combining the results of rural types and rurality assessment, rural development models which accord with current development type and stage can be constructed.(3) Study on rural development modelThe landscape system consists of three parts: natural landscape based on water network, production landscape of traditional farming and modern agriculture, settlement landscape of traditional water villages and modern construction. Suffering from effects of human activities, water villages are faced with a threat that feature and charm fades gradually. On the basis of rural development situation, three rural development models of rural tourism, township enterprise promotion, agricultural industrial park and historic building conservation were constructed. Taking research sites as examples, the meaning and feature of the three development models were expounded. Reasonable development suggestions were proposed finally.
