Auto window regulator is one of the most important parts of body system. It has important functions, such as glass lifts, window seal, self-locking, anti-theft and so on. Because of its running environment is complicated, the demand of layout and structure design is higher, it’s more likely to fail than other body parts. At the same time, the automobile window regulator is one of the most frequent accessories for passengers daily use, Users perceive the performance obviously. Along with the advance of industrial manufacturing level, the differences of window regulator’s quality level mainly reflect in the layout and matching with the door system and its detail design. Improving the quality level of window regulator in the design phase is helpful to improve the recognition of auto brand. Only reasonable layout and structural design, combined with strict and effective process control, the window regulator will have a stable and reliable quality performance. Other failure modes existing in the application process of window regulator also serious impact on the customer experience and product reputation. Therefore, having an in-depth analysis and research of typical failure mode existing in the window regulator, and then put forward reasonable effective improvement scheme has important significance.This paper sorted out the classification, structure and function of common window regulator in a auto company, summarized the common problems. According to requirement of the product technology development, summarized the boundary conditions and various influencing factors for the layout of single rope wheel window regulator, including the influence of glass surface parameters, glass boundary, glass guide groove, glass rubber tank, slider, and the door in-plate and so on. On this basis, combined with the previous experience in actual application and the relevant requirement of new models, analyzed the design points of window regulator guide rail, slider, motor plate, lead angle and the stability of the lifting process of glass. Determined the design and layout details of window regulator. Then used CATIA software(DMU module) checked the result from three aspects: the assembled process, the space position and motion simulation. At last, after the dimensional chain calculation, analyzed the dimension control of window regulator, the results conformed to the requirements. Which put forward the instructional suggestions for the layout and designs of window regulator in the ongoing projects. At the same time, the article finished the monomer lateral stiffness and durability test of designed window regulator, the results meet the requirements。Meanwhile, this paper analyzed the typical failure modes of window regulator in the commercial vehicles. Found the reasons of disorder rope and abnormal sound, and put forward the reasonable and effective improvement schemes, reduced the failure frequency and improved the quality of the product, also provided referential basis for the subsequent problems and the quality control.
