In the practical engineering application, as a result of the limitation of manufacturing process, geometry size of the structure, load and elastic modulus of materials will present a certain degree of uncertainty. This uncertainty affects the security and reliability of structure, and traditional design method is difficult to accurately consider the effect of this uncertainty. Therefore, reliability optimization design theory that researched the uncertainty has important theoretical significance and practical value in the field of structure design.This article mainly reviews the structural topology optimization design method and the common problems in the process of topology, and generalizes the development of reliability optimization design, also summarizes the common method of reliability-based topology optimization, expounds the theoretical basis and design process in detail, compares the advantages and disadvantages of various methods and suitable scope. Combination with the engineering practice, the response surface fitting method is proposed in this paper to solve the problem of reliability-based topology optimization. We research the topology optimization design problem that considered load and material elastic modulus as random parameters, structural stress as a design constraint, and through the cantilever beam and MBB beam analysis verified the effectiveness of the proposed method.Finally, we redesign and optimize the Suspension arms of plane flat tail. During the design process, construct a mathematical model that considering minimum volumes of structure as objective function, and discrete element design area as variables, reliability of structural stress as constraint. Through the optimization process, we get a new form of structure that reduced the structural stress and improved the load bearing capacity of the structure. And through the comparison with typical suspension arms, illustrates the advantages of topological structure.
