3D printing technology has been widely used in household appliances, automobile, aviation, shipbuilding, machinery manufacturing, medical and other fields of the world. It is a new research field which contains high technology and knowledge in many aspects, such as computer technology, laser technology, chemistry, materials science and structural science etc. It makes the product to be obtained more conveniently. This paper takes 3D printer machine body-- the 3-P[2-SS] parallel mechanism as the research object, the kinematics, error modeling, kinematics calibration and experimental study of the mechanism are analyzed.Firstly, based on the 3-P[2-SS] parallel mechanism and the fused deposition-molding technology, 3D printer prototype is designed and then the print principle, the system components( i.e., mechanical system, hardware and software control system), the selection of printed material and three-dimensional printing process are elaborated. It lays the foundation for future study.The degrees of freedom, forward and inverse kinematics and velocity of the 3-P[2-SS] parallel mechanism as the mechanical printer are analyzed based on the screw theory. ADAMS analysis software is used to verify the corresponding theoretical analysis results by simulation, which is the premise of the error modeling.According to the structural characteristics of the 3-P[2-SS] parallel mechanism, space vector chain analysis method is used to construct the mapping model between position errors sources and geometric error sources. The position error sources and geometric error sources are separated by use the error separation technique. The error parameter model is simplified. A simplified parameter error calibration coordinate is established. And the identification and compensation of error parameters is analyzed in theory.Finally, based on the simplified error model parameters, the prototype calibration experiments are carried out by using laser tracker.
