Due to significant benefits such as compact structure, high transmission power, high reliability and anti-wear capability, silence chain is becoming the main solution for engine timing system. However, with the development of engine technology, chain tension increase with the increase of cam driven torque. Chain tension is key factor for chain serving the whole engine lifetime, due to irregular chain system track, it is difficult to measure chain tension by strain gaging method which is expensive, poor reliability and long leading time, blocking the application of domestic silence chain.Firstly, establish chain system model. Based on timing chain system general design method, design target DOHC engine timing chain system layout to position the components and parts, By simplifying components and parts geometric feature, the chain system can be rebuilt in Matlab.Secondly, establish chain system kinetic model and its solution program. Based on multi body dynamics theory, analyze timing chain system components and parts kinetic model, first time introduce crank TV dynamic model and chain elastodynamics model to reflect timing chain real work condition; design contact search strategy and built contact force calculation model according to modern contact mechanics; resolve timing system dynamic models by Runge-Kutta numerical integration method.Finally, verify the simulation model by comparing tensioner piston force and motion which are measured by testing and resolved from simulation model; study tensioner piston force and motion trend in different tensioner tuning, provide a guide for tensioner tuning selection.In this paper, chain tension calculated through the combination of testing and simulation method. By applying crank TV dynamic model and chain elastodynamics model, the simulation model can reflect the real engine working condition, provide a practical solution for domestic silence chain application.
