Blast furnace slag fiber has the characteristics of non-toxic, no pollution, no burning etc. blast furnace slag fiber insulation boards made from blast furnace slag fiber can improve the inorganic thermal insulation materials market share when adds binder and modified agent, and they also can provide noncombustible materials for building energysaving insulation.The diameter of the BF slag fiber is uniform, and the content of slag ball is 7.8%. the average diameter of fiber was about 6.8 μm, the diameter and slag ball content of the BF slag meet the required standards.At present, blast furnace slag fiber insulation board has not bend formally production used, and it is still in the stage of lab research. It makes an experimentally comparison of the wet plate making process and semi dry process of board process respectively. And find that the semi dry process is the optimal process.As a inorganic binder, water glass has the advantages of low cost, non-toxic, non polluting, high temperature resistant, etc. But the water glass is less cohesiveness than organic binder and has large water imbibition. To choose the water glass as binder, they ought to be modified. The mechanical properties of modified plate is better. Choose the concentration of 10% of water glass solution, adding polyvinyl alcohol and silane coupling agent and it will modified water glass. Finally comes the mechanical properties of plate which meet the requirements of quality. And the moisture absorption rate is significantly reduced too. When the amount of Polyvinyl alcohol is 1%, the plate compressive strength is about 42 kpa, the tensile strength of plates is 20.55 kpa. The quality of the moisture absorption rate decreases on the average about half when the silane coupling agent is 2.5%. Through the measurement, the thermal conductivity of fiber version is about 0.03 w/(m k) and meets the insulation board insulation requirements.
