For the especial environment, the mechanical characteristic of bridge pile foundation in steep-slope area is very different from that in flat slope. Combined with waste abandoned under the bridge during construction, uneven settlement of foundation becomes aggravated. Meanwhile, because of the instability of surcharge loads, landslides and other geological disasters are prone to happen under the influence of factors such as rainfall, earthquakes, which will greatly affect function and the overall security of the structures. To guarantee the function of pile foundation and overall security of the structures in steep-slope area, the research on effect of surcharge loads on the mechanical characteristics of pile foundation and its engineering technology in steep-slope area is very necessary.The effect of surcharge loads on the mechanical characteristics of pile foundation is researched by use of the mechanical and numerical analysis models, and based on field monitoring data and study of scholars at home and abroad. This paper is relying on Baise-Jingxi expressway project and the damage types of bridge caused by surcharge loads are analyzed through field research and monitoring. Corresponding engineering technologies are proposed to ensure the safety of bridges in steep-slope area.Study discovers that the effect of slope sliding induced by surcharge loads on mechanical and deformation characteristics of bridge substructures is obviously. Mechanical properties of medial and lateral pile, pier, and upper and lower collar beam are not all the same. When the slope is instability cased by surcharge loads, bridge structure is prone to failure under the combined effects of tension and shear.The research results have positive instructive effects on ensuring the operation safety of Ponanling Bridge pile foundation, and it has certain theory and project practical value.
