Highway widening project in question is bound to face foundation differential settlement, Such as, improper control of differential settlement of foundation, pavement structure will be destroyed.At present. Researched foundation differential settlement impact on the mechanical properties of pavement structure of insufficient, to carry out research of the foundation differential settlement of the mechanical properties and failure mechanism of the pavement structure, to guide the highway widening project, pavement design, pavement damage prevention and improve the life of the road is of great significance.In this paper, based on the National Natural Science Fund Project “a large-scale physical model tests of subgrade widening differential settlement”, the finite element numerical simulation as the means, the mechanical properties and damage mechanism of the pavement structure are studied by the differential settlement of the foundation. The main contents are as follows:1. This study based on a large-scale of physical model test subjects subgrade widening, the test data were rearranged, using the finite element analysis software to build a two-dimensional numerical model and obtained subgrade widening foundation differential settlement curve. Verify that the physical model test of settlement curve design is reasonable.The study of create multiple three-dimensional numerical model for the physical model. Explored and determined the most reasonable numerical model simulation of the physical model, put forward a numerical simulation of key technologies.2. Comparison and analysis of the physical model of the 3D numerical simulation results and physical model test results, obtained consistent development law. With over FEM supplements the physical model tests for longitudinal stress of each structural layer of the pavement structure, shear stress and damage mechanism of pavement layer for analysis in the foundation differential settlement.3. This paper collected and analyzed of datas that heavy traffic characteristic of Henan Province, reference the mechanics model of axle loads wheel pressure at home and abroad, determined vehicle load drawings and vehicle load transverse distribution scheme. By means of finite element analysis software, based on three dimensional numerical model for widening subgrade differential settlement, carried heavy traffic load simulation. Through numerical simulation results analysis of differential settlement under conditions of heavy traffic load of asphalt concrete and cement concrete, study on mechanical response of law and failure mechanism of the pavement structure.
