Biodiesel is a kind of biomass, a relatively common type of liquid fuel. It is widely regarded as an effective alternative energy class,and is usually applied to diesel engines for alternative energy sources. By using biodiesel the energy crisis can be to some extent be eased. The environment friendliness of diesel engine can be improved. It is also an effective way to replace oil and liquid fuels and provide mankind with of chemical raw materials.In this paper, biodiesel prepared by waste oil has been studied, and a single-cylinder optical access engine has been used as the test equipment, and the relevant parameters of the in-cylinder spray characteristics and combustion characteristics of biodiesel and petro-diesel has been acquired through the high-speed camera technology.Then, process the images through Matlab, and compare and analyze them.The main experiment conclusions of this paper are: At the same engine operating conditions, the spray penetration distance and the spray tip speed of biodiesel is greater than which of petroleum diesel, the spray cone angle of biodiesel is less than which of petroleum diesel. At the conditions of which the speed is 800 rpm and the injection pressure is 80 MPa, the heat release rate of the biodiesel is higher than the diesel and the maximum combustion pressure of the biodiesel is lower than the diesel. At the two different conditions that the injection pressure is 160 MPa and the speeds are quite different, the maximum combustion pressures of them are almost equal. At the speed of 800 rpm the heat release rate of the biodiesel is lower than the diesel, at the speed of 1400 rpm, the heat release rate of the biodiesel is higher than the diesel. At the same engine condition, the combustion flame luminosity and the flame non-homogeneity, the flame spatial fluctuations, the flame luminosity variation of the biodiesel are lower than petroleum diesel.The conclusions of this paper, has provided an application for biodiesel to be used in the field of in-cylinder process of diesel engine by the necessary theoretical basis and experimental basis.
