Flame detector is one of the basic and the critical units in the FAS, which continuously monitors the protected areas, detects the parameters of the causes of fire at the early stage accurately and then gives an alarm. So the quality of it is very important. As a result, it’s very important to test the performances of the flame detector, and the response time of it is a vital parameter.The paper surveyed the development status on the technology of the testing on the flame detector’s response time, and analysed the shortcomings and the limitations of the existing detection technology. On the basis of these, a flame detector’s response time detection system based on the Freescale SCM was developed, which can be used to accurately measure the response time of the flame detector.The detector’s response time detection system in this research uses the Freescale SCM as the main control unit, the high speed rotating blades as the rotating shutter, and the electromagnet control blade as the central shutter. The system starts to time at the time when the flame detector detects the flame, and detects the flame detector’s response time accurately through the control shutter. While the system also provides the interactive interface, users can communicate with the main control unit using the screen, and the functions of single measurement, repeated measurement, and printing the measurement data are provided as well. The functions are tested in the lab using the UV and the infrared lamps, including the system functions, response sensitivity, anti interference capacity and so on. The test result shows that the system responses quickly, measure accurately, and has a strong anti-interference capacity. These all satisfy the design requirements. After the test, the system is used in the physical environment on trial, and also completes the response time detection of the standard fire through the detector. The site operation of the system is stable.
