Earth, shelters, missiles, ships etc. are common platforms which have many electronic devices placed on. These platforms always face the complex electromagnetic environmental conditions. These conditions such as the radiation fields generated by the platform’s antenna or the electromagnetic interference from the environment, cause influence on the platforms themselves and the electronic devices placed on as well. Cables lying on platforms which are used for communication is one of the mean paths that bring bad influence to the devices. In a complex electromagnetic environment, cable coupling is inevitable. Unexpected interferences could be introduced into the systems by the cable coupling. These interferences may disturb the devices and even destroy them. Single wire cables,twisted-pair cables, coaxial cables etc. are widely used in communication and battle-control systems. Some of these cable are well shielded. But in HEMP or UWB electromagnetic pulse irradiating environment, cables coupling eventually happens in the limit of the cable shield’s structure and performance. The current and voltage transient response may cause influences to the relevant systems. The capability of the devices may decline and the sensitive equipments may be destroyed. As a result, accurate analysis of the impacts on the cable coupling that caused by electromagnetic pulse is very necessary. In this paper, transmission line system model based on earth is build. The system consists of coaxial-cable and STP cable. In the HEMP or UWB electromagnetic pulse irradiating environmental condition, the induced current response caused by varying the cables’ length, height and load are studied. The impacts to the induced current with the variation of incident angle are also researched. The coupling characteristics of cables carried on two kinds of complex platform are studied. As the shelter transmission line system model, field distribution of the shelter are given when the shelter is suffering the HEMP irradiating. Both the coaxial-cable’s and STP cable’s induced current response caused by changing the cable’s length, position are studied. Especially, we studied the coupling characteristics of the multi-cables carried by missile model. To engineering analysis of complex platform’s cable coupling, the conclusions and the simulation results in this paper have certain value. To the EMC designing and protecting problems of complex platform transmission line systems, the results are useful as well.
