The development of superconducting materials, especially the high temperature superconducting materials, brings revolutionary improvement to the property of electrical devices, including the superconducting generators. Comparing to rotating superconducting generators, linear superconducting generators(SLG) have nature advantage on its design and operation, for the cryostat system of linear generators don’t need to rotate like rotating ones, which brings higher stability. The research of SLG will provide a more efficient converter option to wave energy generations, Striling engine generations and linear expansion machines.This paper studied and analyzed SLG excited by superconducting bulks and superconducting coils with the conclusion of linear generators’ and SLGs’ development. Then electromagnetic simulations of superconducting linear synchronous generators(SLSG) excited by superconducting bulks and superconducting coils were conducted, with which advantages qualified of SLSG over traditional ones, the no-load and load characteristic of SLSG, and the output characteristic of SLSG in sinusoidal mode were presented.Besides, a moving-coils SLSG used in a dish solar Stirling power generation(DSSPG) system possessing the function of self-cooling was designed. And a SLSG used in wave generation and a superconducting reluctance switch generator(SSRG) applying both wind and wave energy were also proposed.The main contents of this article are: 1) Briefly introduced the background and development status of linear generator and SLG, and the principles and characteristics of them; 2)Studied the principles of SLSG excited with superconducting bulks and superconducting coils, analyzed their characteristics on mathematic form; 3)Constructed the simulation model of SLSG with different excitation in Maxwell software, presented its advantage over traditional ones, the no-load and load characteristic of SLSG, and the output characteristic of SLSG moving in sinusoidal mode; 4) Designed a SLSG used in DSSPG system, which had function of self-cooling. In the system two Stirling engines were equipped, that one acted as the linear compressor of the cryocooler and another drove the SLSG. And then analyzed the heat load and the possibility of the system; 5) Proposed a SLSG used in wave generation and a superconducting reluctance switch generator(SSRG) applying both wind and wave energy.With the study in this paper, it’s obvious that SLG has much higher no-load voltage and output power ability over conventional LG. Effects of mover’s velocity, gap, exciting field on characteristics of the SLSG were confirmed. Application projects proposed and designed have been proved to be feasible, which have value to be further studied.
