The uncooled infrared thermal imaging technology is one of the high-techs which used for both military and civilian. Vehicle infrared thermal imaging system evolved from the uncooled infrared thermal imaging technology, it can improve the environmental awareness of the driver greatly. Driving safety and driving experience of the driver can be improved significantly by using it. Hence, through in-depth study of vehicle infrared thermal imaging system, infrared thermal imaging technology can be further enhanced, which will meet the growing demands in applications. In this thesis, by researching the working mechanism of infrared detector, based on the working principle of the vehicle infrared thermal imaging system, the program of vehicle infrared thermal imaging system was proposed. At last, a low-power, small, lightweight, high reliable and cost-effective vehicle infrared thermal imaging system was designed by UL03162 in this thesis. The hardware circuit of the system comprised:power management circuit, detector driving circuit, ADC conversion circuit, FPGA and DDR2 image processing circuit, the video coding circuit, defrosting circuit and motor driving circuit. The infrared signal processing is one of the core technology in vehicle infrared thermal imaging system, the FPGA-based algorithms of non-uniformity correction and image enhancement are designed for the real-time imaging. The system used Adaboost classifier trained by Haar as pedestrian detection algorithm and implemented it by FPGA.Finally, system specifications was provided. Through testing, NETD is 60 mK,power consumption is 3.0w. Stable and clear imaging, far detection distance and good pedestrian detection effect was achieved in the vehicle infrared thermal imaging system.
