Frontal impact is a collision form which causes the high proportion and the highest casualty rates. In recent years, mini-bus fleet has steadily increased especially in the countryside and urban suburbs. Because of the short design in the front and considering of economic factors, the safety equipment of mini-bus is not comprehensive. It’s very dangerous in frontal crash. In this article, taking a mini-bus for the study, the frontal collision simulation models were established and verified in MADYMO. Based on the body damage of the occupant, considering collision waveform and occupant restraint, the safety performance of mini-bus was improved to reduce the occupant injury.In this article, the mechanism of occupant injury and damage indicators was described, the MADYMO simulation software and its dynamic modeling theory were introduced. According to the requirements of relevant laws, simulation model of frontal collision was established in MADYMO. The simulation model consists of MB-FB seatbelt, airbag, floor, dash board, seat, streering system and multi-body Hybrid Ⅲ 50th percentile male dummy. Interaction between each rigid body is defined by the contact. The output results include the dummy’s head, chest deceleration curve, chest compression curves and injury criterion.Test method, test process and main equipment were described in detail, and occupant restraint system simulation model was corrected based on the injury value of the real frontal crash, then the corrected simulation was studied as a model to be study in this article. The safety of the mini-van was optimized and occupant injury was reduced from considering collision wave form and occupant restraint. For the optimization of the occupant restraint system, the closely related components to occupant injury were determined through sensitivity analysis, and then the determined components were simulated and analyzed to make the optimal combination.
