With the size expanding of the power system, and the rapid development of power electronics technology, particularly the development of long-distance high-capacity transmission, power grid interconnection, and more investment operation of the new elements, simulation software selection become more difficult when the power system in the presence of DC systems, power electronics equipment or complex control system. We must take into account the complex power electronics and control systems, as long as detailed modeling of a number of traditional elements. Therefore, to achieve co-simulation of PSASP and MATLAB has very important practical significance. This paper is based on State Grid Corporation of China "Major Projects on Planning and Operation Control of Large Scale Grid". Focused on the existing simulation software PSASP key technology of open simulation platform research, PSASP and MATLAB co-simulation technology was deeply studied. The principle of co-simulation, the interface technology, the design and realization of the program operator were analyzed in each aspect of research. On the basis of analysis about MATLAB and PSASP applications and data characteristics, the co-simulation method between PSASP and MATLAB was proposed. The equivalent circuit of PSASP network and MATLAB model and its calculation method were studied, so were the data conversion methods. Through PSASP user program interface (UP1), co-simulation interface was designd to call the MATLAB engine API function implements PSASP and MATLAB simulation program. Process for co-simulation is controlled to solve the problem of variable transmission and storage, and the ability was achieved to be more precise in MATLAB simulation step size to achieve a mixing step simulation. Finally, a photovoltaic grid MATLAB model and its access to PSASP co-simulation were built, while photovoltaic power generation combined with PSASP network simulation example was designed. The simulation tests verified the correctness of PSASP and MATLAB co-simulation and feasibility of interface methods.
