Gypsum cyclone is an important equipment of wet flue gas desulfurization system (WFGD) in power plant, worked as a separation equipment of heterogeneous mixture. Its main function is concentration and classification of gypsum slurry from absorber tank with advantages of simple structure, large capacity, low cost and continuous operation. The operation of WFGD system will be disturbed and the quality of final gypsum will be affected because of the serious problems as overflow coarse, fish-hook and dissatisfied separation in cyclone’s operation. Therefore, it’s very important to make a deep research on separation characteristics and structure optimization of gypsum cyclone.Operation parameters and material parameters are the key factors influencing the gypsum cyclone separation characteristics, and reasonable selection of operating parameters and material parameters directly decides efficiency and quality of final product. The flow mechanisms of hydrocyclone were studied, what’s more, a large number of experiments were carried out and so did the tests and analysis on the experimental data. The analysis is on the relationship between the target parameters and inlet pressure and slurry concentration, including the relationship between the production capacity, the separation efficiency, underflow concentration, classification efficiency and the inlet pressure and slurry concentration. The characteristics relationship between the operating performance and target parameters also was established based on the analysis from the perspective of qualitative and quantitative.In addition, for the short-flow phenomenon of the gypsum cyclone which leads more coarse particles discharged from the overflow pipe, a structure of ring peak type overflow pipe was designed aimed at eliminating the short-flow and improving the performance of gypsum cyclone, meanwhile, how to choose reasonable processing and installation of ring peak type overflow pipe was put forward. Experiments were conducted in order to have a further understand about positive influences by the new structure of overflow. At the same time, the performances of gypsum cyclones with different overflow pipe include production capacity, separation efficiency, concentration of underflow and classification efficiency were measured and compared. The positive effects on new structure of overflow were studied to provide guidance for the structural optimization of gypsum cyclone.
