In recent years, with the development of the theories and the methods of the temperature measurement, the range of the temperature measurement is expanding constantly, and the requirement of higher precision measurement is increasing. At present, the temperature measurement technology has been extended to some special applications from the application of the traditional occasion. As a part of our country tradition ancient acupuncture-moxibustion therapy, the curative effect of the fire needle has gained widespread recognition in clinical practice. However, now in medicine the definition of fire needle temperature to apply is qualitative definition not the actual quantitative measurement and calculation. To develop the therapy of fire needle further, the scientific research and standardized operation about fire needle should be implemented. Due to the small diameter of the needle, the short heating time and the intense change of the temperature, the temperature measurement of the fire needle is high challenge. In this paper,we have researched the temperature measurement of the fire needle during the heating process, and the change regularity of the temperature in the process of cooling when the fire needle is inserted into body.This paper introduces the basic principle and method of non-contact temperature measurement in detail. Then for the reasons like the fire needle belongs to micro size, the temperature-measuring probe is hard to reach, the temperature field being damaged, and the wide fluctuations of temperature in the process of moving. First of all, we have designed a set of temperature measurement system of the nearly monochromatic monochrome thermometry by means of the CCD image sensor. And then the temperature measurement experiment on the fire needle in the heating process is implemented. Through the temperature measurement experiment on three different materials and different sizes of fire needle, we can get the temperature variation rules of the fire needle in the heating process via the image processing methods. According to the experimental data through new fitting function, we find out the temperature of thin metal electric unsteady-state heating change empirical formula. And analyze the influence of size and material on the fire needle temperature. Finally, the mathematical model of the heating and cooling process of the fire needle is established. To cover some shortage of experiment and obtain a considerable amount of accurate data, the numerical simulations are performed. This paper presents the quantitative analysis of the heating and cooling process of the fire needle, and provides data support for the clinical application of the fire needle.
