In the past several years, both at home and abroad for research on dynamic characteristics of the steel chimney structure are relatively few. Especially, the characteristics understanding of the novel self standing steel chimney is not sufficient. This paper is from the theoretical defects of a traditional enterprise self standing steel chimney. According to the most commonly used in metallurgical machinery industry equipment about smoke exhaust and dust removal, for the traditional self standing steel chimney and the outer wall with spiral guide plates self standing steel chimney carried out theoretical studies and computer simulation analysis. First, through the two steel chimneys modal analysis determined their natural vibration period. On this basis, under external wind load for the enterprise self standing steel chimney and the novel self standing steel chimney were carried out related theory analysis and calculation respectively. Got the two steel chimneys along-wind pressure value and the across-wind resonance range at different heights. Then according to the local involved 50 years maximum wind pressure, through the ANSYS Workbench software for CFD wind tunnel simulation and analysis. Simulated the strong wind load effect to the steel chimneys structure, stability and safety etc. To determine the spiral guide plates not only have the guide function on the steel chimney outer wall, also can greatly reduce the steel chimney resonance range under different pressure and different height, enhanced the whole structure stiffness. Then we based on the steel chimney structure dynamic characteristics, through the seismic theory and response spectrum analysis of the finite element model for the two kinds of steel chimneys do a transient seismic dynamics analysis, which is based on the root mean square method (SRSS) of seismic effect coefficient curve. Through the simulation analysis we have a preliminary understanding about the two types of steel chimney failure mechanism in the frequent earthquake loads. Finally, through the analysis and comparison of various guide plates steel chimney structure schemes get on a optimal scheme about the outer wall with spiral guide plates self standing steel chimney.This paper through the above each part comparison and analysis of the traditional and novel self standing steel chimney, verified under the strong winds and frequent earthquake loads the performance advantages of the outer wall with spiral guide plates steel chimney whole structure. At the same time, we applied the analysis software to optimize its design. All of these will provide a theoretical basis and design reference for the future of this kind design and application.
