As EMU is rapidly and universally developing, wheels are the key components that ensure EMU running and to ensure the traffic safety, we should put forward higher requirements for strength and fatigue life of the wheel. Therefore, the theoretical research and analysis of EMU wheels has important significance.Based on the reviews of the strength analysis theory and research method of rail vehicle wheels on both at home and abroad, this article introduces in detail foreign standards of wheels, development situation of fatigue strength research of wheels at home and abroad and the main forms of the wheel fatigue failure, then introduces the finite element method and fatigue strength evaluation method and fatigue life prediction method. The three-dimensional finite element models of the new wheel and wear wheel of intercity EMU are established by using Hypermesh software, and add the conditions and the corresponding constraints of finite element models, and then use ANSYS software to analysis the interference fit of the wheel axle and analysis the static strength and fatigue strength of the wheel with UIC510-5 standard. In order to analyze the influence of the wheel plate hole to the strength of wheels, three sections are selected, and in the three positions in accordance with the standards of the straight line and curve, turnout conditions to add loads, and then the new wheel and wear wheel are analyzed in 9 cases respectively.Interference fit analysis shows that with the increase of the amount of interference between the axle and wheel, stress value will increase accordingly, and the relationship is linear approximately, and the stress in the same amount of interference of the new wheel and wear wheel is basically the same. The evaluation results show that the static strength of new wheel and wear wheel under 9 kinds of conditions can meet the requirements of the static strength, the maximum stress occurs at the edge of the wheel hub and axle interference fit. The evaluation of fatigue strength of the wheel plate is using Haigh Goodman curve, the wheel plate hole fatigue assessment is using the Crossland curve, we can see that the wheel plate and the plate hole both meet the requirements of fatigue strength, The position of the weakest fatigue part of the wheel is on a point of edge of the hole that vertical or parallel to the wheel radius, and in the middle or the middle position of the hole. And the wheel also meet the infinite life requirements.
