Overload of wind turbine in operation risks the wind farm safety. Over time, bearing wear, aging blades or resonance can cause extreme loads, which may destroy the wind turbine. So, usually estimate extreme loads that may occur once during N years to determine the safety of wind turbines in the meantime. Therefore, we must study the method to estimate the extreme loads of wind turbine to determine the effective control method. Extreme value theory has matured in other areas with high reliability, the estimated extreme loads of wind turbine is useful for design with good economic and security; analysis of extreme loads on the wind turbine safety and the impact of different control strategies on extreme loads, providing the basis for wind turbine design parameters and can better determine the optimum control strategy to ensure the safe operation of the wind turbine, to prevent damage to the wind turbine caused by overload. The safe operation of the wind turbine is important. The main works of this thesis are(1) According to classical extreme value theory, computation and analysis the load of wind turbine under different turbulence models, estimate the wind speed range and value of wind turbines extreme loads.(2) For the POT model, proposed a new method of screening data.(3) Compare the extreme loads at different control strategies, analysis of the serious consequences of extreme loads that may arise.(4) Estimate the extreme load of wind turbine with on-site load data analysis.
