The Design Of Propaganda And Education Signage System In Wetland Park

As a new type of park,wetland Park is an effective way to solve problems between wetland ecological protection and development. Wetland Park has unique functions because of the particularity of its resources, including ecological protection, popularization education, leisure and sightseeing etc. The Propaganda and Education Signage System(PESS) is the main carrier of the wetland knowledge spreading, and also an important part of the wetland education system. Therefore, the study of designing Wetland Park PESS is crucial.This study emphasizes on the design of the Wetland Park PESS. All the data is collected during the investigation of four wetland parks, including Hong Kong Wetland Park, Xixi National Wetland Park, Cuihu National Urban Wetland Park and Yeyahu National Wetland Park. These data is analyzed from three aspects which are contents, design of signage and targeted users. After the analysis, the guiding ideology of the PESS design is summarized as follows:First of all, it is crucial to meet the functional requirements before any other designs, mainly referring to information delivering and education function. In other words, ‘content determines form’ is the basic principle of signage design. Secondly, the design of PESS should directed by five standards, including historical culture, multi-disciplinary guidance, visual effects, diversification and a combination of wetland characteristics. After that is the theoretical research on relevant features, such as contents, materials, form, size, location and quantity etc. When referring to the design of form, there are also fouraspects to be considered, which are enjoyment, interaction, multifunction and technology.Under the guidance of previous theories, Zhangziying Wetland Park is chosen to be the case study. The contents of signage, educational tour routes and the layout of outdoor PESS are planned and designed based on the situation of site, as well as the logo and tourism map. Meanwhile, the principle of PESS design in this site is suggested and followed during various PESS design of both indoor and outdoor. The study provides new ideas to PESS design. At the same time, hopefully, it will provide guidance and reference to enhance and improve its public education function in Wetland Park.
