Rolled Compacted Concrete (RCC) dam is developing rapidly. On the one hand, its height and scale are larger and larger. On the other hand, its type has changed from gravity dam to arch-gravity dam and thin arch dam. At present, RCC dam has become one of the most promising and representative dam types. According to the observations of RCC dams that have been built at home and abroad, the dam construction technology for Rolled Compacted Concrete is successful in general. The layer of RCC dam is inevitable because of its typical layered structure, which is easy to become relatively weak surface if processed improperly or time interval is inappropriately controlled. Weak horizontal layer can result in deterioration of the strength and seepage characteristics, which severely weakens the layer adhesion quality of RCC. With the extensive use of RCC dam construction technology in domestic, a growing number of projects, especially high dams, have put forward higher request on the layer adhesion quality of RCC. Therefore, for the layer of RCC, studying the influences of different layer processing methods on the layer adhesion properties of RCC to improve the layer adhesion quality is a project with great theoretical and practical significance.In this paper, the layer microstructure of RCC is studied by water absorbing power method and scanning electron microscopy, which reveals the layer microstructure variation of RCC under the circumstances of different time intervals between layers and different layer processing methods. Thus, the layer macroscopic properties of RCC including impermeability and shear strength can be explained from the aspect of microscopic mechanism, providing a basis for deeply understanding the reason that the layer adhesion of RCC is good or not.The layer impermeability and shear strength of RCC under the circumstances of different time intervals between layers and different layer processing methods are studied, which reveals the attenuation law of the layer impermeability and shear strength of RCC over the time intervals between layers. The influence rules and improvements of different contents and types of bedding materials including sweller and nano-silica on the layer impermeability and shear strength are gained, which provides a reference for improving the layer adhesion quality of RCC.
