With the development of country and the continued growth of our national economy, and as the core of our country’s transportation, the railway’s passenger and freight traffic serious saturation, transport capacity and traffic is very conspicuous, it has become a tie-ups restricting economic development. High speed and heavy rail technology as the key to solve these problems, the research in recent years has made rapid development. The development of high-speed and heavy haul railway have made the electrified railway traction power supply system’s continuous enhancement has introduced the new problems to the safety of railway system. Therefore, the study on the distribution of grounding returning current in traction power supply system, and putting forward the corresponding protective measures has important significance.According to the Urumqi Railway Bureau related research, the thesis introduces the reasons of grounding returning current in the direct traction power supply system, making the mathematical modeling of grounding returning current in direct power supply system, analyses, discussion and think over on the two conditions of grounding returning current in the traction substation grounding resistance.In a MATLAB/Simulink environment build a SS8electric locomotive model, simulation of harmonic current type DC traction drive system, through the traction substation analysis get the harmonic current type of AC traction drive, calculation obtained from traction grounding returning current harmonic current distribution. The research analyzes the influencing of the substation at the back the size of the traction.Research and analysis about the influence to the traction substation grounding returning current to large and small level, calculates the optimization results, and proposed reasonable engineering suggestions.Urumqi Railway Bureau has traction substation as an example, study on traction grounding returning current for traction substation grounding bar electromechanical corrosion. According to Faraday’s law, the calculation and analysis shows relationship between grounding grid corrosion rate of steel and the traction returning grounding current, in the light of traction substation connection grid steel corrosion problems, from the perspective of chemical measures solution are put forward.
