Coal-fired power is the main electric source of our country. As the economy continue to boom, requirement of electricity from the production of every industry and people’s pursuit of higher life quality has been quickly increasing, which gives a boost for the thermal power generating industry as well as coal consuming. The by-product of coal burning has critically damaged in environment, during the "twelfth five-year period" the government has announced environmental-friendly policies to support the renewal and upgrading of coal-fired power plant, so attaching waste disposal section to existing facilities has been largely adopted by many power plants.According to 《Standard for classification of seismic fortification of building constructions》 GB50223-2008, power plant belongs to the key fortification buildings. Namely, the use function cannot be interrupted or lifeline buildings which will be fixed as soon as possible during earthquake, and may cause heavy casualties and severe disaster consequence which needs to raise the fortification standards.This paper takes the Lin Kou power plant in Lin Kou district, New Taipei City, Taiwan for research background, the object is the steel structure which supports the GGH-Gas Gas Heater in FGD system. This structure part has local large openings in floors which leads to stiffness mutation and inhomogeneous mass, and the whole structure behavior is sharply weakened, so weak story comes into being. Based on original design files, simplified finite element model has been built in SAP2000for modal analysis and response spectrum analysis and the features of the modes results and their inner cause were discussed. Then advisory adjustments were made to optimize the original structure, by which the stiffness distribution and structural behavior were improved.
