There are many and complex reasons cause mechanical parts failure, friction and wear is one important reason, how to control friction and wear become the key methods to improve the quality and longevity of parts. Friction and wear process occurs mainly in solid surface friction, by coating the surface modification of solid material or solid self-lubricating materials and related technologies is one of the hotspots of the current field of tribology research. Compared with the traditional wear resistant surface treatment, its obvious advantages:is that not only can reduce their wear and tear, but also can avoid dual pieces badly bruised. FeS is a typical solid lubricant, preparing iron sulfide on the surface treatment can improve lubrication state of surface, improve the wear resistance properties of steel materials, therefore sulfide processing case more and more attention. But most of the presence of a low penetration rate, sulfide layer of rust, environmental pollution, high energy consumption, high cost and other issues existing processes.Sulfide layer on45steel was prepared at room temperature by chemical sulphurizing technology. By controlling the single factor method of infiltration formulations were optimized under the optimized formulation process of sulfide (sulfide time, temperature, substrate roughness) were explored. The friction and wear properties of the sulfide layer were investigated on a M-200tribo-tester under different conditions and at different sulfide process. The surface morphology, microstructure and worn surface morphology of the sulfide layer were characterized with scanning electron microscopy and dimensional profiler. The phase composition of the sulfide layer was determined by X-ray diffraction. The results show that a sulfide layer produced on the surface of45steel substrate by chemical sulphurizing at room temperature, the friction-reducing and wear-resistance effects of the sulfide layers are remarkable. Sulfide solution formulation and process had a significant effect on the sulfide layer of anti-friction and wear resistance. Ferrous sulfide coating has a porous structure is conducive to the absorption and storage of lubricating oil, lubricating oil and sulfide layer can greatly improve the synergy anti-friction wear resistance of the material. During friction and wear sulfide, the FeS of sulfide layer will shift downward, due to mechanical friction and heat, etc., partly decomposed iron sulfide, sulfur atom of the active sample downward shift in the next sample stainless steel surface to form a sulfide ferrous, ferrous sulfide and iron sulfide combined effect of these on the specimen, to better achieve the role of friction and wear.
