With the development of economy and technology, a variety of composite bridges were built in China. As a key component of the composite bridges, performance of PBL shear connector directly determines the cooperation between steel and concrete. And that’s also the reason that we pay attention to PBL shear connector. As a new form of shear connector, PBL shear connector has been widely applied because of its excellent mechanical properties. However, the mechanical properties can be influenced by many factors, and the force-transfer effectiveness is very complex. What’s more, there is no common method for research. Since these reasons, we still cannot master its mechanical properties.At present, the calculation of PBL shear connectors is all based on the empirical formula of single one, which ignores the inhomogeneity of internal force distribution. Obviously the calculation is not very reasonable that it can easily lead to unsafe results. So it is critical to research the stress mechanism of PBL shear connectors.Focusing on a sea-crossing bridge in Dalian, by using the method combing model test and finite element analysis, we analyze the stress mechanism and internal force distribution of multilayer PBL shear connectors in this paper. And it also provides recommendations for similar studies for reference. The main contents are summarized as follows:(1) First of all, we introduce the development and research progress of PBL shear connector in composite structures;(2) Conduct model experiment on12specimens in6sub-types and2types, for the purpose to study the working performance of PBL shear connector;(3) Combined with finite element analysis, research the mechanism of multilayer PBL shear connectors and figure out the stress distribution rules of PBL shear connector between layers;(4) Study the force-transfer effectiveness of steel-concrete composite section by establishing its finite element model. According to the results, provide recommendations on improving Economic design.
