Molds and dies are important process equipments of modern manufacturing. Rapid and controllable mold design and manufacturing are critical to mold&die enterprises. To shorten the cycle of mold design and manufacturing, and to control the manufacturing process, the knowledge management and online monitoring techniques play an important role.To this end, the research on knowledge representation, acquisition and storage technologies etc. has been done in this paper. Beside that, the data collection methods have been discussed, and the online monitoring of CNC equipments to provide reference data for enterprise production management staff has been implemented in the paper.Firstly, according to different types of mold, the knowledge description model based on group technology is built up. On the basis of knowledge description model, a object-oriented knowledge description method with examples and relationships is proposed. This method coordinates the mold knowledge together in the form of case according to mold species and exploits the object-oriented method to represent the case and its elements to form a tree structure of knowledge representation by taking the case as the root. The structure of knowledge is so clear and the relationship-based research can achieve the link among knowledge. On the basis of the knowledge representation model, the developments of Web system interface on knowledge acquisition, retrieval, reuse and task assignment are introduced. Beside that, this paper implements to store the knowledge in a relational database and gives database design method and database-related operation method.Secondly, by studying the data acquisition technology of CNC equipments and the characteristics of CNC system, the macro data acquisition module is developed based on standard communication interface (RS232C serial interface). This module can acquire the related data in the CNC equipments running process, then it can obtain the current status of CNC equipments to provide reference for enterprise managers.Thirdly, in order to further improve the efficiency of mold design, and reduce the strength of the staff accessing reference data, a online checking module on mold design, which integrates standards and formulas commonly used in mold design process is developed, to provide designers with design standards and computing services. To better manage the resources of production, the enterprise resource management module is developed, including the management of departments, staff and equipments.Finally, based on these studies, according to the MVC software design patterns, the J2EE development platform is used to design and develop the mold production process knowledge management system which is based on B/S architecture. By deploying the application in Dalian Mould Co., Ltd., the system is feasible.
