With the rapid development of the national economy, demand in electricity is increasingly growing. Our country has implemented the "Strong Grid" construction and "West-East Gas Transmission" strategy. DC transmission and distribution have developed rapidly due to unique such advantages as high capacity and low line-loss. As a key equipment of DC grid, the aging problem of insulator is increasingly prominent. According to statistics, the rate of aging insulator of DC transmission is two orders of magnitude higher than that of AC, which seriously affects the safe and stable operation of power system. Therefore, the research on aging insulator is one of developing trends of power technology.Domestic and foreign research has proposed to use DC insulator aging test method in order to study DC insulator aging problem. However, the development of related test equipment is slow both at home and abroad, and extant devices have such problems as low intelligent degree and inaccurate measurement results, which restrict the forecast of insulators’ aging and life. Therefore, we put forward the issue concerning the development of intelligent aging test device of DC insulator.Aiming at the existing problem of test devices, the paper focuses on test technology of DC insulator aging, HV insulation technology and the core content of wireless communication technology. We design the insulating structure of insulator aging cabinet and carry on its simulation. With the design and construction of temperature control system, we develop a set of intelligent insulator aging test system which can test the insulator by simulating its operating environment. The results meet the original goals.
