The ordinary propeller has experienced a lot of testing, study and perfection since it came out firstly. As a series of theory such as the lifting line theory, the lifting surface theory and the panel method are published, it has been further improved. Because of its superior propulsion performance, it has been widely used as the propeller of civilian ships and military ships for more than one hundred years. With the ship’s development to large-scale, However, the main engine power increases sharply. Consequently, the cavitation and vibration on ordinary propeller has become increasingly prominent, which provides a favorable opportunity for the development of tandem propellers. In this paper, parts of B series propellers and tandem propellers are simulated based on CFD methods. The details are as follows:1. The computer regression data, which comes from the open water test of B series propeller published by Dutch test tank, are programmed made use of the VB language. The results calculated by the program are compared with the ones which are inquired from atlas. It’s found that they are in good agreement, which proves the validity of the program.2. The numerical calculations are conducted for parts of B series propellers including of B4-40, B4-55and B4-80. The open water performances of B4-40are primarily compared and studied under four kinds of turbulence model. Compared with other models, the error of the open water performance is the smallest under the RSM model, which proves that the RSM model is the best turbulence model for the numerical calculation of propeller. Moreover, The stress characteristics and bubble wake of B4-40are analyzed as well.3. The numerical calculation of CL-B4-40-2is carried out. The numerical results of four tandem propellers are compared with the experimental ones, and some conclusions are drawn. In addition, How the alteration of the two main parameters-the Angle and distance between the blades influences on their open water performance is studied as well.4. The open water performance of CL-B4-40-2are compared with the one of B4-80. Under the same power coefficient, the open water efficiency of the former is better than the one of latter.
