The technology of automobile suspension has being a research focus in the field of vehicle engineering. Suspension performance directly affects the comprehensive performance of automobile chassis, especially the ride comfort and the handling stability.The purpose of this project is to improve the suspension performance of the cooperative enterprise’s a certain model. Firstly, this paper discusses the working principle of various kinds of suspension technology, the controllable suspension development course and current situation, the contradiction about limited traditional suspension’s performance and high technology and cost of controllable suspension, the emergence of inerter and the important influence the mechanical network and suspension technology. Then, the series and parallel structure of any dual element’s, which is spring, damper or inerter, vibration isolation characteristics are studied. Using the parallel structure of spring and innerter’s resonance characteristics and the electronic network cascade filtering theory, a new suspension structure form that includes a inerter device is designed and the half car new suspension system’s dynamic model that is "road-suspension-bode" is established, which includes differential equation model and state space model. Next, the parameters of the suspension performance indexes are discussed and the simulation and analysis of suspension performance in three conditions is did by Matlab/Simulink, which include frequency response characteristics, the time-domain pulse excitation response characteristics and road roughness stochastic excitation response characteristics. Compared with traditional suspension performance, the new suspension performance improvement is also verified. Finally, this paper discusses the development of inerter device, the essence and principle of the inerter’s mechanical structure, design key points and the significance of the inerter to the development of suspension. A new type of ball screw device type inerter’s mechanical structure is designed. The mechanical design of the new inerter device that is match to this topic’s new suspension is completed preliminary according to the suspension performance requirements of this project and the design process of ball screw pair.Through this topic research, inerter and its application in suspension technology was preliminary summary. The effectiveness that new suspension can improve the traditional suspension performance is validated. Mechanical institutional form of inerter device has been expanding for subsequent inertial device designs and the simulation analysis of suspension system model including inerter, this paper can provide some ideas and methods.
