Point-supported glass curtain wall is a new type of building structure developedgradually in the nineties of last century. This kind of structure has been widely usedin many countries as it’s economical, beautiful and with rational strength. As externalstructure of the building, glass curtain wall could has certain ability of displacementwith respect to the main body, but does not bear load of the main structure.Point-supported glass curtain wall has the advantages of simple structure, reasonablestrength, beautiful appearance, and because of the transparency of glass, theoutdoor scene could be seen by people in the room, the whole building is merged intothe surroundings, both of which are impossible for other structures. There are variouskinds of glass; suitable glass can be selected according to different requirements indifferent environments. Point-supported glass curtain wall could be supported inmany forms, such as single-layer cable net, double-layer cable net, cable truss, glassribs and so on, different structural forms can be chosen by architects according todifferent requirements, providing a lot of imagination and creative space for thedesigner. For all these advantages, point-supported glass curtain wall has been rapidlydeveloped and applied since its advent. Cable point-supported glass curtain wall is akind of flexible structure, its stiffness is mainly provided by the prestress of cables, sothe control of cable prestress is the key to the whole structure strength, to which weshould pay attention. In view of this, mechanical properties of the cable point-supported glass curtainwall should be analysed detailedly. In this thesis, mechanical properties ofglass panels, combined action of glass panels and cable truss, mechanical properties of cablepoint-supported glass curtain wall and some relevant aspects are analysed detailedly. The following aspects of work are specifically done:One, a theoretical basis is provided for this thesis by collecting material aboutthe glass curtain wall, learning the history of curtain wall and current status of research. Two, the calculation theory of plate bending problems is analysed and used toget the stress conditions of glass panels, the finite element calculation model isestablished by using ANSYS software, the stress conditions of four-point supportedlaminated glass panel are analysed, and the influences of different parameters on thestress of glass are reached, such as the thickness of glass, the thicknessof PVB material, the magnitude of load and the size of glass panels, providing atheoretical basis for future glass designs.Three, theories about the support system of cable point-supported glass curtainwall are described, finite element models of none-glass panels and glass panels areestablished and different structural height of pressure bar, prestress of cables andloads are considered so as to analyze the contribution of the glass panels on thestiffness of cable point-supported glass curtain wall.Four, the overall model of cable point-supported glass curtain wall is establishedby using ANSYS software, different structural height of pressure bar, prestress ofcables, diameter of cables and thickness of glass are considered in order to analyseinfluences of parameters on the maximum deflection of the whole curtain wall and themaximum stress of cable and glass panels, and these parameters normalized to knowthe extent of influence.
