The new-type torque device in flight simulator is used to provide high fidelity operatingforce for pilots to ensure the quality of flight simulation training. The design of this kind ofnew-type torque device should be considered by several respects, such as the select of device’smaterial, structural design etc. Due to the structural particularity of device, the traditionaldesign method not only can’t meet the requirement of performance indicators, but it also havebig workload. Therefore, using feasible optimal design method to get the satisfactoryelectromagnetic parameters is necessary.The device is similar to permanent magnet motor, only lack of the electric excitationpart.So, the design of this device is based on the design theory and method of permanent magnetmotor. First of all, the development course, classification, design principle and general designprocess of permanent magnet motor are introduced. The features of motor design andproblems that should be noticed are summarized in this paper. The features of motor optimaldesign, comparison of traditional optimal method and modern intelligence optimizationalgorithm are introduced at the same time. Aiming at the special structure of new-type torquedevice and special design needs, this paper has proposed seven kinds of structural optimaldesign scheme and introduced the mechanism of weight variation in clonal selection algorithm.After that, the mathematical model of the optimal design for the new-type torque device isestablished. The running platform for intelligence algorithm is provided by MATLAB, at thesame time, APDL in ANSYS is used to perform parameterized modeling, finite elementanalysis of the new-type torque device and result feedback to realize the combination ofANSYS and MATLAB. At last, a new-type torque device is optimized respectively based ongenetical gorithm, clonal selection algorithm, variable weight clonal selectionalgorithm(VW-CSA).The proposed method is confirmed to be effective by the comparison of optimizationresults to the current design scheme of the new-type torque device.
