Hydrodynamic Torque Converter is one of the most important components of the ATautomatic transmission and CVT automatic transmission, which’s fluid performanceimproving the dynamic features and economical of vehicles.With the development of thecars, torque converters accordingly have been designed with an increasingly narrowerprofile for the front-wheel-drive layout cars.This paper research on the differentcirculatory circle of torque converter which based on the torque converter prototypeHY218,the purpose is to find out a suitable circulatory circle to reduce flatness ratio ofthe torque converter and keep fluid performance of the torque converter.Creating3Dmodel and generating grid of the different torus torque converter of the different torusarea and the different torus cross-flow area,and applying the CFD numerical simulationsoft make the torque converter internal flow numerical analysis.Comparison of fluidperformances of the different torus torque converter by the CFD result,get influence ofthe different shape circulatory circle of the torque converter on hydrodynamicperformance.1)The geometric model of torque converter passage is created by Bladegen, the gridmodels of pump、turbine and stator are generated by ANSYS-Turbogrid,and then use thek-ω equations which based on SST model to solve numerical model of torque converterby ANSYS-CFX.2) For effectively calculating fluid performance of torque converter, someappropriate hypotheses are applied on torque converter,torque converter each impeller’s(pump、turbine and stator)fluid field characteristic is simulated and analyzed by CFD,and make the comparison of the numerical simulation result and experiment result。3)The torque converter model which has the different torus area、the different toruscross-flow area、the different ellipse torus and the different turbine torus flatness ratio,are created and calculated by CFD。Compare different effects of the different torus shapeon torque converter’s fluid performance parameters,the fluid performance parametersinclude stall torque ratio、capacity and efficiency.4)The more large torus area and the more large torus cross-flow area of torqueconverter,its torque ratio and efficiency are more high,but capacity is more low;thehigher ellipticity torus area and the higher ellipticity turbine passage of torque converter, its torque ratio and efficiency are lower,but capacity is higher.As the result,the HY218torque converter’s torus flatness ratio is optimized,the optimization result can meet therequirement by adjusting the blade parameters.
