As an important components of drive shaft, differential mechanism can directly affectsthe performances of the car, Torsen differential is a new type of limited slip differential, thetorque can be distributed according to the needs of each wheel traction. Taking Torsen typedifferential as research target and proposes a new transmission scheme: crossed helical gearstransmission mechanism, which compared with the form of worm gear has a better selectivityin gear number of teeth, material, gear ratio, processing technology and so on. The main workis done for:Makes use of the crossed helical gear as the main driving mechanism of Torsen typedifferential, the transmission theory and the mechanism’s driving characteristics of thistransmission mechanism are analyzed, summarizes the calculation methods of meshingconditions, transmission ratio, contact strength, contact ratio and other parameters.The characteristics and working principles of this type differential are described, Theanalysis on movement characteristics, torque characteristics, limited slip characteristics andtransmission efficiency are given, and the corresponding calculation formulas has beendeduced, It provides basis theoretical for further analysis and design of differential.According to the choice of a specific input parameters, the Torsen type differential’sparameters were designed, in order to improve the efficiency of design calculations, this paperhas formed a CAD system to design and calculation parameters by use of VB, and Pro/Esoftware was used to built a three-dimensional solid model of the differential.Hypermesh and ANSYS-Workbench software were used to analysis gear contactstrength, the analysis results were compared with the four kinds of contact strength theorycurrently used. ADAMS was applied in motion simulation of differential in linear andcornering conditions, the results verified the motion characteristics and torque characteristicsof the design differential, and this simulation results has proved the rationality of the designdifferential.The research results of this paper can provide a reference for the relevant design andanalysis of this differential.
