In recent years, more and more landmark towers have been built. The complexity of facade and function, which is becoming more ornamental, symbolic and multifunctional, brings many puzzles in structure design. And the key among them are seismic and wind resistance. Therefore, studying seismic and wind resistance shows practical value. The research object, the sign of Tsingtao International Horticultural Exposition, is a unique, complex and multifunctional landmark tower which consist of eight varying heights lattice columns with flower petals, a inner cylinder and a standing platform. The columns are connected by the inner cylinder. Under petals is a platform whose maximum cantilevered length is about20m, which leads to a serious structural mass and stiffness asymmetry. To further study the seismic resistance and provide theoretical basis for engineering designing, Midas is used in modal analysis, from which self vibration characteristics have been obtained. Then the seismic resistance performance under frequent, moderate and severe earthquake were studied respectively according to performance-based seismic design method. The Mode-superposition response spectrum method and elastic time history method were used in the frequent earthquake analysis, while only mode-superposition response spectrum method was used in the moderate earthquake analysis. The dynamic elastic-plastic time history analysis method was used in the severe earthquake analysis with material and geometric nonlinearity considered. The result shows that all the members can keep elastic under frequent and moderate earthquake of7degree, while all the members are not yield under severe earthquake of7degree. Yet columns and some other members yield under severe earthquake of8degree.Wind load is the major factor that can affect those structures. Furthermore, this structure is complex because several petals hanging outside. Based on wind tunnel test, the structural shape factors of wind load have been studied, and the wind vibration response analysis has been conducted to provide important reference for engineering designing.
