Since1968, the dynamic compaction method was proposed by L.Menard, as a foundation treatment method, this method has been widely used in foundation reinforcement, the related theory and experimental study have developed gradually, but due to the complexity of soil parameters, dynamic design and calculation of foundation reinforcement are still highly basing on the experience the qualitative level.In this paper, based on the analysis and summary for dynamic compaction technology in the world, the mechanism of dynamic consolidation is analyzed. Combining with a foundation reinforcement engineering of crushed gravel backfill in Laiwu power plant, the effects of compaction characteristics, layer thickness, dynamic energy etc. on the dynamic consolidation are analyzed. During the above study, the methods such as in-situ tests, numerical analysis, mechanics are used. By the analysis for the actural problems in practice, the program for the construction is designed, and the corresponding technological parameters of construction are put forword.The effects of dynamic consolidation foundation are verified by the experiments such as boreholes, shallow plate loading, ultra heavy dynamic sounding, and rayleigh wave. The variations of physical and mechanics parameters for the soils before and after dynamic consolidation are studied, the studied parameters include consolidation depth, compactness, bearing capacity etc.. By tests, why some parameters are lower than the design values is talked about. The compactness of the shallow gravel sois in2m depth is lower than the deep soils, the reasons about this phenomenon are studied. It can be verified that the effects of the tests including boreholes, shallow plate loading, and rayleigh wave are effective for the foundation measuring.By this study, it can be found that the effects of dynamic consolidation for the gravel soils foundation is superior to the other methods, this method can improve the strength and uniformity, decrease the compression, and improve the phydical and mechanics characteristics. The dynamic consolidation method can be spread for the gravel soils foundation.
