With the rapid development of world economy, the situation of energy crisis and environmental pollution is getting worse. In order to reduce the vessel operating cost and meet the requirements of international conventions on ship emission limits, wing-assisted technology is grabbing attention from the shipping industry with owing to its advantages in cost and environment protection. The wing changes the manipulation of ship’s power plant when providing assisted thrust for the ship. The bulk carrier "Peng Long" is chosen as the target ship, for it is suitable to utilize the wing. The influence of wing on the ship’s manipulation is analyzed by establishing the ship motion mathematical model, and finally, the manipulation pattern of the wing-assisted-ship’s power plant is established.Firstly, a suitable method is chosen for estimating the target ship’s resistance by referencing to relevant literature, and the performance characteristic of the target ship’s propeller is studied through multiple regression analysis method. This thesis selects a multi-element wing with high lift-drag ratio as the target wing and obtains its aerodynamics characteristic through wind tunnel experiment.Secondly, the force acted on the ship is analyzed and the ship motion mathematical model is established according to the ship parameters. The simulation test of the ship’s rapidity and maneuverability is conducted and the ship motion model proves to be effective by comparing the simulation result and the target ship trial report.Then, the wing model is established according to the wing’s aerodynamics characteristic; the influence of the wing on the ship motion is studied using the established ship motion model. Study results show that the assisted thrust force provided by the wing increases the ship speed when the main engine rotation speed keeps constant and decrease the main engine rotation speed when the ship speed keeps constant; the transverse thrust force provided by the wing changes the drift angle and the rudder angle which keeps the course unchangeable, the higher relative wind speed, the more obvious influence of the wing on the ship motion.Finally, the service conditions of the wing for the target ship are obtained:the relative wind direction angle should lager than15°, the relative wind speed should above zero and the ship speed should larger than7kn. According to the service conditions of the wing, the manipulation of the wing-assisted-ship’s power plant is established to help the seafarer manipulate the ship properly.
