Since the high-speed railway in China opened its operation, the accident oflightning stroke and insulator’s flashover for its catenary system occurs frequently.The article introduced the characteristics and technical parameters of the high-speedrailway’s catenary system.It analyzed the statistical data of the accident of lightningstroke for Guangdong section of Beijing-Guangzhou High-speed Railway’s ContactSystem. Combine with the present situation of high-speed railway’s catenary systemlightning protection in china and abroad.In order to improve high-speed railway’scatenary system lightning protection performnce and reduce its tripping rate,pointsout some measures to improve its lightning protection performance: the earthninglines shall be installed along the High-speed Railway’s Contact System and arrangedon the top of the poles; In the key lightning areas, the arrester is added to be fixed.Surge protective devices Should be installed for the facilities of the tractionsubstation、the partition、the AT substation.These improve measures were madeexperiment and put into effect on Guangdong section of Beijing-GuangzhouHigh-speed Railway’s Contact System. After half a year’s operating test, a goodlightning protection effect was obtained,and it will further implement along the wholerailway. In order to improve the whole line’s lightning protection performnce andreduce its tripping rate, guarantee the safety of tracion power supply and serve thehigh-speed railway transportation order better.
