Vehicle active safety (VAC) is an important part of Driving Assistance Systems(DAS), combining technologies from Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) andIntelligent Vehicle Technologies (IVT). Active safety revolutionized the traditionalmodal of passive safety, the aim of which is to minimize the severity of adverse events, putting its focus on the prevention of accidents.Modern vehicle active safety reply on the comprehensive application of high-speed mobile networks, micro-electronic mobile devices, satellite positioning, GIS andRadar sensor technologies. Being part of DAS, VAC provides drivers safetyinformation services, as well as many active safety measures such as collisionavoidance warning, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic parkingassist, driver monitoring and cross-traffic monitoring. This paper focuses on the study of traffic warning based on vehicle active safetytechnologies. Due to the lack of study, application and products that come along withthe start of the modern VAS technology, this paper strives to deepen the understandingof VAS warning systems, with the goal of combining academic research andengineering applicability. What this study contains is the following:1, Introducing the concept of Active Safety and functionality of modern vehiclesafety technologies, and their characteristics, as well as analyzing the many aspects ofVAS from a design perspective.2, Analyzing the impact of traffic environment elements on traffic safety from aVAS perspective, with focus on the analyses and modeling of the influence on vehiclesafety from weather and road surface conditions.3, Analyzing the implementation of collision avoidance functionality in VAS, andmodeling of safety warning distance.4, Studying the decision procedure and implementation using collision avoidanceas an example; also providing analyses on perimeters and a discussion of the model.
