Our country is vast in territory, and has many rivers running through, bridge, as the connection of river banks, is an important part of the transport line. Lots of areas in our country have ice phenomenon and the river ice disaster is most serious in the northern cold region. At every spring break-up time, drift ice will cause varying degrees of damage to the bridge. So that, in order to prevent the drift ice caused serious damage to the bridge and ensure the safety of the bridge in drift ice area, it is necessary to study the interaction between drift ice and bridge.This paper firstly summarizes the research situation of interaction between river ice and structure, and introduces the finite element calculation theory of the collision effect between river ice and pier, and applying this theory, with LS-DYNA, establish the finite element model of the collision effect between river ice and pier. Then study the effect of the ice characteristics, the icebreaking structure shape and the ice impinging position when the drift ice impacted the bridge pier. The study shows that, the ice strength and ice raft thickness have a significant influence on the collision effect; the ice raft velocity have little effect on the collision effect; the intersection angle in the plane of the icebreaking structure is bigger, the collision force and the pier top displacement is bigger; the ice impinging position has little effect on the collision force, but it has a significant effect on the pier top displacement. This paper finally design a floating pontoon anti-icing device which can float with the varying water stage, and study its crashworthiness. The research shows that, the floating pontoon anti-icing device not only reduces the collision force between river ice and pier, but also have a good effect on reducing pier top displacement, it can be used as the anti-icing device of flexible high pier.
