Designing as rapid, accurate, and easy of automotive muffler, has been the technical problem that restricts the automobile production enterprises to further reduce the running noise, improve the comfort of the vehicle in reality. The technology of muffler design has become the bottleneck of automotive designing, is not conducive to the development of the automotive industry. To carry out the study of vehicle exhaust muffler intelligent design and optimization system is the scientific research work which was combined with the needs of the market and the practical benefits. At the present, the design process of automotive exhaust muffler has certain defects:For the selection of design improvement, cannot carry out reasonable design, according to the noise characteristics of vehicle exhaust noise; Muffler design work on the designer’s experience requirements are very high, for the less experienced designers is a technological challenge, resulting in the design cycle is too long and the design results are not ideal phenomena, paper has carried on the summary and study of noise propagation and car muffler design theory, put forward the reasonable method, the above problems were improved, which is completed to meet the practical application of intelligent optimization design of exhaust muffler system with the demand and design of accurate car.In this paper, the development of automotive exhaust muffler intelligent design optimization system was base on the basic function of the muffler element transfer matrix and the powerful computing capability of MATLAB software. The system can according to the requirements, through the operation of the interface, complete the structure parameters optimizing of the binding characteristics of the original muffler noise source or positive development of the new muffler. Firstly, through the comparison of the calculation methods of muffler, the muffler transmission loss calculation of the transfer matrix method, and summarizes the transfer matrix formulae of basic muffler elements in common, then use MATLAB software to design the structure of the muffler can divide unit, calculation of transmission loss and parameter optimization design system structure, finally the accuracy simulation of the muffler design system are tested, proved the practicability and reliability of it.
