Power system reliability is always power system operation, planning one of the most important issues. Rooted in the power system of risk probability of system behavior characteristics.By using of Power System Analysis Software Package (PSASP) and Probabilistic Reliability Assessment Program (PRA), a typical operation mode of Ningxia power grid is analysed depthly. Overall Analysis, Interaction Analysis, Situation Analysis and Root Cause Analysis are included in this research. Full use of existing statistical data transmission component reliability and system stability analysis software to calculate the results, start the Ningxia Power Grid risk analysis, development of risk analysis to adapt Ningxia Power Grid system for grid operation and planning for risk analysis and reliability analysis.The risk and reliability indexes can be got from the analysis of the Ningxia power grid’s each typical operation mode, then a great deal of work such as weak point location, optimal scheme selection and optimal scheme selection can be finished easily. In the end, the existing problems of the grid and the improvements have been proposed.
