Urban bridges are the most important structures in city highway system. It will causetraffic interruption which leads to great difficulty in disaster rescue and huge loss of lifeand property once the bridge is damaged in earthquake. Therefore, it plays a greate rolefor seismic evaluation of urban bridges in service. It needs a suit of effective evaluationmethod to make the seismic evaluation of urban bridges carried out efficiently andsuccessfully. Therefore, the aim of this research is to work out a suit of systematic andeffective seismic evaluation method with strong operability for urban bridges, whichcan evaluate seismic performance of urban bridges to bring up reinforcement measuresand provide basis for reasonable distribution of fund.The research takes urban bridges in Hefei as background and learns the advancedresearch results at home and abroad. Losts of factors are studied which includeearthquake fortification category, anticipated service category, earthquake level,minimum seismic performance level, site classification, seismic fortification intensity,value of acceleration response spectrum, seismic hazard level, Seismic retrofitcategories, vulnerability, seismic hazard rating, bridge rank. Various categories aredivided and defined in order to work out a suit of method. Seismic evaluation for urbanbridges is finished with this method. The seismic evaluation method is improvedaccording to the result of seismic evaluation for urban bridges. It is proved that thismethod can evaluate the seismic performance of urban bridges, determine priorities anddirect reinforcement measures. The result is satisfactory.
