In recent years, more and more scholars draw attention to Pushover analysis in earthquake engineering. Due to its clear theory and easy operation, we can use it to get information to evaluate the performance of structure under certain seismic effect, such as the capacity curve(base shear-top displacement curve)、performance point、 interlayer displacement angle、the distribution of plastic hinges and so on.At first, this article represents the development of Pushover analysis at home and abroad, introduces the theory and assumption which this method rely on. Based on this, the article shows some common ways of Pushover analysis and the corresponding solving steps. The key of this article is to discuss the lateral load distribution patterns, not only illustrate some common modes, but also put forward a new pattern which use modal participating mass ratios to consider the effect of higher mode. Then use a living example to contrast the effect of different pattern modes. At the same time, in order to check the degree of accuracy, this article proposes use the elastic-plastic dynamic analysis to calculate the result, and have a comparison with the result of Pushover analysis. By this way we can verify whether Pushover analysis can meet the need of engineering seismic design. At last, this article use these two methods to analysis a high-rise steel frame, through the results we can see not only the effect of lateral load distribution patterns to the outcome of Pushover analysis, but also find compare with dynamic analysis, the pattern mode which consider modal participating mass ratios conform better to the actual working situation. By the end, this thesis explain some directions in this field which worth deep research, and express the expectation of further study in the future.
