Along with the demand of constructing strong and smart grid and environmental protection, the smart, reliable and clean electrical equipments are getting more attention. Vacuum circuit breakers, with good extinction performances, high reliability, occupy leading markets in the field of medium and low voltage. But in the high voltage domain, limited by the voltage grade, vacuum circuit breakers are not so commonly used as SF6circuit breakers. But, the use of SF6circuit breakers must be restricted in the future due to their greenhouse effects. With the theoretical and technical development of multi-break circuit breakers, the saturation problem of long vacuum gap length is solved. So, multi-break circuit breakers will become the future trend in the high voltage domain.In this paper, with the goal of researching double-break circuit breakers, arc model of double-break circuit breaker for simulation is built. Model parameters are optimized through experiment waves, more practical simulation model is obtained. Calculation is carried out using ATP, voltage distribution of double-break circuit breaker and the different interrupting capacities under different arcing times are got. Also, we found that good voltage distribution performance can be obtained using500pF-1000pF grading capacitors. Then, double-break circuit breaker test platform is built, experimental prototype is manufactured. For satisfying the experimental requirements of double-break circuit breaker, synthesis circuit is also debugged and the coordinated control is designed. Through experimental study, the effects of synchronous interruption, asynchronous interruption and grading capacitors on interruption capacity are analyzed. When there are no grading capacitors, better interruption capacity can be got when two breaks interrupt asynchronously; when there are grading capacitors, better interruption capacity can be got when two breaks interrupt synchronously, which provide reliable references for the optimized design of double-break circuit breakers.
