The overall and partial strength of the rail vehicle has an important effect on the life and performance. In practical use, the weakest area is the structure joint For welding structure, dynamic stress test is used to predict its life and some evaluation criterions have been formed in some industries. For bolt-on connection and riveting, the weakest area is the pre-tension area, because this area has stress concentration. For the mounting plate of leveling value (MPLV)、pilot、pantograph、and so on, there are endurance cracks on these structure’s pre-tension area.Taking MPLV for example, this paper research on the calculating method of the stress of pre-tension area and its main tasks include:(1) Used Solidworks software to build the3D model; Used Hypermesh software to mesh the model and according to the stress distribution of the pre-tension area, radial mesh was used to mesh the model; selected the appropriate contact parameter to build more accurate finite element model(FEM).(2) Researched on the stress distribution of the pre-tension area; analyzed the dynamic behavior of the MPLV by using the harmonic analysis results; designed the testing plan and found the transitive relationship between the pre-tension area and the testing point; used the testing signal to correct the FEM and calculated the stress of pre-tension area; calculated the S-N curve of the pre-tension area in99%reliability; estimate the fatigue life of the MPLV.(3) Proposed the improvement program of the MPLV.(4) Calculated the dynamic transitive relationship between the pre-tension area and the testing point by using the harmonic analysis results; designed the testing plan on the pre-tension area; from the results of the analog loading and testing on the actual railway, verified that the vibration nearby the pre-tension area was the linear small amplitude vibration.
