In recent years, with the rapid economic development of our country, the railway undertakes the important share in sending passengers and transporting materials. For the rapid economic development, social progress, improving people’s quality of life made an important contribution; but the railway traffic accidents still occur frequently, the fatigue failure of rail joint bolt is an important factor. So, studying the fatigue failure of rail joint bolt has greater realistic meanings.In this paper, according to the particularity of working environment of rail joint bolts, the various parts of the stress and deformation characteristics are analyzed under working condition, studying the influence factors of fatigue occurred on the bolts, and the further improver and enhance structural fatigue strength; Through the finite element analysis obtain rail fatigue life of rail joint bolts, in order to provide a reference for maintenance or replacement.This paper has carried on research form several following respects emphatically to the fatigue failure and life prediction of rail joint bolts:(1) Through browsing relevant literature at home and abroad, the fatigue of the research methods and status of bolts are summarized. Cumulative damage theory, life prediction and finite element are further understood. A good basis is established for future work.(2) Contact analysis on the bolt thread by finite element analysis software ANSYS is made, and equivalent stress and strain of rail joint bolts are obtained, the results compared with the actual failure characteristics. By changing the thread root radius of bolt to research the influent stress concentration of bolt and improves the fatigue strength of the bolt.(3) Each part stress and deformation of bolt is established by changing preloaded torque, and analysis show that preloaded torque has influence on the fatigue of bolt, the best preloaded torque is calculate.(4) The solid model of the rail joint is established using the3D software Pro/E. By using finite element analysis software ANSYS analyses the rail deformation as temperature force produce, the results show that deformation of rail has influence on the bolts.(5) Due to the existence of rail seam, locomotive generates a great impact in the rail joint. The solid model of the wheel and rail joint is established using the3D software Pro/E. The finite element analysis of rail joint is achieved through connection between the3D software and ANSYS Workbench software; the results show that deformation of rail has influence on the bolts.(6) Established the finite element model and analyzed fatigue life of rail joint bolt by using model of finite element analysis software ANSYS Workbench Fatigue. For preloading or replacing bolts provide reference.
