The ceramics which is used in this experiment is obtained from a ceramic enterprise locating in Faku county. Utilizing the abandoned ceramics effectively and transforming them into recyclable resources will not only reduce the ceramic enterprises’ production cost but also contribute to protect the environment. Transforming the abandoned ceramics into aggregates that are used to cast concrete, which will find a new aggregate resource for concrete and a new way to utilize the abandoned ceramics effectively. There are many parameters which affect workability and strength of concrete, the aggregate is one of the most important parameters. So this experiment focuses on the impact on workability and strength of concrete by using abandoned ceramics as aggregates.According to’Specification for mix proportion design of ordinary concrete’(JGJ55-2000), the experiment is composed of13groups of concrete as follows:one group of ordinary concrete, four groups of concrete using abandoned ceramics as coarse aggregates (the ratios of abandoned ceramics used as coarse aggregates are70%,50%,30%,0%), four groups of concrete using abandoned ceramics as fine aggregates (the ratios of abandoned ceramics used as fine aggregates are70%,50%,30%,0%) and four groups of concrete using abandoned ceramics both as coarse aggregates and fine aggregates (the ratios of abandoned ceramics as aggregates are70%,50%,30%,0%).According to the current standards and specifications, the macro and micro experiments are compared to research the workability and strength after hardening for each group of concrete, and then systematic and comprehensive theoretical analysis will be carried out.The experimental results show that:In the slump experiment, the result shows that the slump will decrease with the amount of abandoned ceramics increases. Using a stick hit the collapsed concrete centrum you may find that it will split, and there will be liquid flowing from the bottom; This means the cohesiveness and water retention of concrete will decrease. It also means that the workability of concrete gets worse; No matter at3days in earlier stage or at28days in latter stage, the compressive strength of concrete will increase as the amount of abandoned ceramics used as a substitute for aggregates goes up. And the compressive strength will reach the peak when the ratio of abandoned ceramics versus total coarse aggregates is70%. The compressive strength of concrete will decrease if the ceramics are used as fine aggregates; No matter at3days in earlier stage or at28days in latter stage, the rupture strength of concrete will decrease as the amount of ceramics is raised. But the descending magnitude will be less than15%;5) The interlock situation between abandoned ceramics and cement is similar to that between natural aggregates and cement through micro observation. And this new technology shows a better interface bonding performance. Therefore, instead of discarded ceramic natural aggregate under certain conditions is feasible.
