Abstract/Summary:
As the domestic nuclear power industry develops and nuclear technologyapplications spread, radioactive pollution and potential risks of nuclear disaster increase.Environmental issues, especially monitoring for nuclear accidents, nuclear plants andnuclear facilities, therefore, have drawn wide attention from the government and thepublic, among which radiation dose monitoring has been given top priority.A Wireless Ad Hoc network is a distributed and dynamic network comprised ofdozens or hundreds of nodes to perform data communication over wireless transmissionmedium. It does not reply on any fixed network infrastructure. Each node participates inrouting and forwards data for other nodes. The networking form overcomesgeographical constraints in a traditional cellular network and is more fast, convenientand effective to implement especially under emergency situations. The present paper design a Wireless Ad Hoc network Radiation Monitoring Systemand proposes an easy ad hoc network protocol. Monitoring nodes automatically form amulti-hop wireless network according to the self-organizing information in the protocolsreceived within their respective transmission range. The present protocol adoptsMSP430F149single-chip processor, nRF905wireless communication transmissionmodule, and G-M counter tubes as the external sensing device. Here also introduces ahost computer processing software to monitor the operation status of the overall system. It demonstrates network typology, reflects changes of sensing nodes, and displays real-time radiation dose of active nodes. The present paper also conducts tests on software/hardware components of themonitoring nodes and their respective capabilities. A networking test on the entiresystem, comprised of monitoring nodes, a base station node and a host computer, is alsocarried out to provide evidence to the effectiveness of the current ad hoc protocol andthe corresponding monitoring system.
