Major foreign automobile enterprises have been entering the Chinese market since China joined the WTO. Being spurred by the foreign auto industry, China’s auto business has been rapidly developed.In recent years, with people’s living standards greatly improved, more and more families are going to have cars, and China’s driver trainees have turned into common people from the professional drivers decades ago.As the traditional method of driver training is restrained by time, site, weather and other external factors, many car trainees’s training time cannot get fully guaranteed, which results in trainees’s driving skill varying considerably in proficiency and this sparked off a series of traffic problems.Therefore, it is profound practical and socially significant to invent an economical and effective automobile virtual driving simulator system,whose products are also promising in the future market.Based on this idea, this paper is to design a automobile virtual driving simulated system on the basis of3ds Max and Virtools. First, this article summarily introduces the virtual reality technology and the virtual driving simulation system, and then it exposits the background and significance of this research; By reviewing and summarizing the relevant researches at home and abroad, the paper analyzes the existing problems of vehicle driving simulator system, brings up the main problems that should be solved and makes some related work arrangements.Second, the overall design plan and system framework are put forward, of which the function of every part in the system has been described in detail; The establishment of scene models and its corresponding optimization algorithms are discussed,by this system not only the real-time and reality of the visual simulation can be guaranteed, but also the treatment ability of the softwares and hardwares get considered. In addition,the paper introduces a simplified motion model to simulate the car’s fundamental motion.Meanwhile, in view of the car movement and the controlment and management of drivers’operating behavior, this paper introduces expert system which can in time estimate and manage some common driving offences and operating mistakes during driving, and enhances the effectiveness of the virtual driving training.Finally, the concrete implementations of the virtual driving simulation system are elaborated. By using the built-in collision detection module of Virtools, the system completed the collision detection between car model and other objects in the scene; Through following camera, rear-view mirror and the switch between the cameras, the system achieves the effect of multi-view during the real vehicle driving, which creates a more real driving environment for the drivers.By using a multi-channel synchronous output rendering techniques, the paper simulates the output of all kinds of sounds in the scene as well as the driving situations of the automobile driving under various weather conditions in order to enhance the reality of virtual driving.
